Wonderful Washington Wine Country!
Did you know that Washington is the second biggest wine-producing state in the whole of the United States? We are blessed to have so many of these fine wineries in our own backyard!
The Washington State Wine Commission reports that we’re home to nearly 1000 wineries, more than 350 grape growers, and 50,000 acres of vineyards ~ that’s a lot of grapes! Yes, Washington cultivates nearly 70 different grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Chardonnay.
The largest of Washington’s wine regions is Columbia Valley, stretching nearly 11 million acres, and produces 99% of all the wine grapes grown within Washington. The wine region reaches to the Oregon border and includes appellations such as Horse Heaven Hills, Red Mountain, Yakima Valley, Walla Walla Valley, Horse Heaven Hills, and more.
While most of the wine-growing region is located in Eastern Washington, many of the wineries have set up shop with tasting rooms in beautiful Woodinville, Washington. There are now more than 100 tasting rooms and wineries located in Woodinville, located just 30 minutes away from downtown Seattle.
